The long version:

The Peer Performer's Pinnacle Workshop - The Triple Threat: Acting, Voice Directing, and Engineering

Dear fellow fellows,

I’m Jonathon, and I am a passionate voice actor who engineers to keep the lights on. I wanted to find a unique way to create a peer workout leveraging my the talents, facilities and know-how that I’ve accumulated over the last decade. This combines three essential aspects of our craft that take place in every single session of our careers: engineering, voice directing, and of course - acting.

Drawing inspiration from legends like Frank Sinatra, who mastered the art of playing to the mic, I aim to celebrate this aspect of voice acting in the digital landscape. The workshop aims to create a unique, round-robing learning environment where we’ll gain insights into the fluid relationship between acting, engineering, and voice directing. By rotating through these three roles, we develop a holistic understanding of the entire process, ultimately enhancing ours skills.

Workshop Components:

  1. Acting:

    • As the heart of the workshop, bring a script and go to town! Show your creativity, curiosity and passion. The rotating nature of the workshop ensures that everyone gets a chance to act, receiving feedback from your peers. This practical experience will deepen your understanding of the actor's role within the broader production process.

  2. Voice Directing:

    • You’ll have your chance to step into the shoes of a voice director! You’ll focus effective communication, providing constructive feedback, and understand the directorial perspective. It's a chance for you to articulate your thoughts and ideas clearly, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

  3. Engineering:

    • Understanding how actors are translated digitally is crucial in today's industry. Participants will get hands-on experience with the technical aspects of voice recording, including microphone techniques, riding the gain and fader, and supporting a performance to make it shine.

Benefits:

in a room that’s

  • Holistic Skill Development: Participants will acquire a well-rounded skill set by gaining insights into engineering, directing, and acting.

  • Collaborative Learning: The workshop encourages collaboration and the exchange of ideas among participants, creating a supportive community.

  • Career Enhancement: Understanding the technical and directorial aspects of voice acting can open new avenues and opportunities in the industry.

Logistics:

  • Cost: $150

  • Duration: 2.5 - 3 hours - everyone gets a shot at all 3 roles!

  • Venue: Salami Studios - 2 PM on Saturday

  • Equipment: bring a dynamic script with highs and lows (3 copies)

I feel that this workshop would not only benefit individual participants but also contribute to the overall growth and professionalism of our voice acting community. I love seeing people branch out and explore. I am enthusiastic about the prospect of bringing this class to life as a facilitator. With our combined might, anything is possible!

See you on the sound stage.

Warm regards,

~Jonathon Bradley
